Instructions for installing aluminum or plastic window frames

Installing an aluminum or plastic window frame requires precision and attention to detail. This manual provides step-by-step instructions to ensure that the frame is installed correctly and securely, with a durable and professional result.

Supplies

  • Aluminum or plastic frame (custom made)
  • Spirit level
  • Tape measure
  • Drill and screws
  • Wedges and adjusting blocks
  • PUR foam (for sealing)
  • Insulating tape or compression tape
  • Impact drill (for concrete walls)

Step 1: Checking the opening

  1. Check the opening where the frame is to be placed. This must be clean, dry and free of obstacles. Also check whether the recess is level and square. If the opening is not square, level it using mortar or adjusting blocks. Check whether the delivered order is complete and correct. Any damage must be determined on the trestle and recorded with photos.
  2. If the frame is broken when removing the old window, you must first make a new frame. To firmly secure the cavity batten and prevent draught, spray PUR foam around the cavity batten. This ensures a stable and well-sealed base for the new frames. If you opt for a frame with a stop, make side planks on the sides against which you can pull the frame.

Step 2: Preparing the frame

  1. Our frames are supplied with a transport profile under the frame, remove this before installation, as well as the handles on the side. If you order frames with glass, the glass is already in the frame. Remove the glass and the rotating parts in order to be able to install the frame properly.
  2. Apply compression tape or insulation tape around the outside of the frame to ensure an airtight connection to the wall.

Step 3: Install and align the frame

  1. Carefully place the frame in the recess using wedges and adjusting blocks. Make sure the frame is level, both horizontally and vertically.
  2. Use a tape measure to check whether the frame is evenly distributed throughout the recess (equal distance between frame and wall).

Step 4: Securing the frame

  1. Drill the mounting holes in the frame and the wall. It is possible to have the mounting holes pre-drilled. You attach the frame with frame anchors in the adjustment frame.
  2. Use suitable screws to secure the frame firmly. Start with the corners and work towards the centre points.
  3. Always check whether the frame remains level while tightening the screws.

Step 5: Insulation and sealing

  1. Fill the space between the frame and the wall with PUR foam. Do this carefully, because too much foam can deform the frame. Let the foam harden according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Finish any seams on the inside with sealant for a smooth finish.

Step 6: Install glass (if necessary)

  1. Place glass blocks in the frame to support the glass evenly. Make sure they are in the right place to distribute the glass weight evenly.
  2. Carefully place the glass panel into the frame and press it firmly against the glass blocks.
  3. Attach the glazing beads around the glass to hold the glass in place. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the glazing beads into place.

Step 7: Checking and finishing

  1. Check that the frame and any rotating parts function smoothly. Adjust the hinges or fittings if necessary.
  2. Seal any external seams with caulk to ensure a watertight and airtight seal.
  3. Remove excess PUR foam and clean the frame.

Step 8: Clean up and finish

Clear the work area and check that all demolition material and waste has been removed. Let the frame rest for 24 hours so that the PUR foam can fully harden.

Important tips

  • Ensure a dry and stable working environment.
  • Avoid screws in the profile of the frame itself to prevent damage.
  • Always use the correct type of sealant or foam that is suitable for aluminium or plastic window frames.
  • After installation, check that there are no drafts or leaks.

With this step-by-step plan you can install an aluminum or plastic frame correctly and firmly. If you have any doubts, consider hiring a professional for optimal results.
